2 DAY / 1 NIGHT
GOUMET FOOD AND WINE TOUR OF MCLAREN VALE AND ADELAIDE HILLS
Description
Your
guide collects you from your accommodation at 9:30am for a
tour the Central Market in the heart of Adelaide to see and
taste the abundant fresh produce before travelling in comfort
through the picturesque Adelaide Hills.
You visit Mount Barker, home of Springs Smoked Salmon, where
you meet Richard Harris. His family has produced smoked salmon
in Scotland for 30 years. He travelled the world to set up
his own traditional smoking plant and finally found his ideal
location in the Adelaide Hills. Fresh salmon is flown in from
Tasmania. You then visit the nearby Brezel Bakery, the maker
of Adelaide's finest breads.
You lunch at the historic Bridgewater Mill where they pride
themselves on using fresh local produce. It is also the home
of Petaluma wines and you have the opportunity to tour the
Methode Champenoise cellars and taste their fine wines.
In the afternoon you continue to explore the Hills and visit
local herb, fruit, and vegetable gardens and then taste some
of the fine local products showcased at the Organic Markets.
You taste wines from Hillstowe in Hahndorf and cheese including
cheese from the nationally acclaimed Woodside cheese factory.
You also visit Fleurieu Fine Foods who produce an outstanding
and innovative range of mustards, preserves, grape wine jellies
and other produce.
If time permits you may include a visit to the Hahndorf Berry
Farm to pick your own berries, visit the Melba Chocolate factory
or taste some of the many outstanding Adelaide Hills wines.
You spend the night in one of the charming guesthouses in
the Adelaide Hills and dine in your cottage.
The next morning you travel through the scenic Mount Lofty
Ranges, through picturesque towns like Clarendon, over the
Onkaparinga River to arrive in the heart of the McLaren Vale
Wine Region. The area boasts over 60 small wineries and many
excellent food producers, almond groves, venison farms, yabby,
and trout farms and berry farms that can be incorporated into
our tour. Nestled among the vineyards are a feast of fine
and exotic foods, from almonds and olives to pheasant and
venison.
Our first visit is to the McLaren Vale Olive Company where
you tour the olive groves and factory and learn about and
taste the fine kalamata olives, olive oil, and olive products
they produce.
After a tour and tasting at D'arenberg winery you continue
to Willunga to meet Russell Jeavons, one of South Australia's
most talented chefs, for lunch prepared in his wood fired
oven and an introduction to seasonal fresh produce of South
Australia. Russell was one of the first to introduce dukka
to South Australia.
You finish with a visit to Medlow Fine Gels and Chocolates
before returning to Adelaide via the coast.
